Logging in and password support

UAL login

Once you have firmly accepted your place, an email will be sent to your personal email address, with your UAL Username. Follow the instructions to set up your Password, as soon as possible. After that, you will be able to use your UAL network login details (username and password) to access all of the UAL platforms. These include your email account (and Office 365), Moodle, myBlog, Padlet, and Workflow.

If you haven’t received this email. Please check that you have firmly accepted your offer (and waited 72 hours), met any conditions, and checked your Junk folder. If you have checked the above, please contact:

For more information please visit IT Services – Your UAL account (opens a webpage)

Multi-factor authentication (MFA)

During the process of setting up your Password, you will need to set up MFA to help keep university data and systems secure and help prevent online fraud. This involves using the free MS Authenticator app, or receiving SMS to your phone. To set this up, you will need access to your phone and a desktop/laptop.

For full instructions on how to set up MFA and information about different locations and devices, visit:

Multi-factor authentication (UAL website)

Password Support

After your initial password change, if you have any problems with your password, there is help available:

We recommend visiting UAL IT services. As well as support, you will find a wealth of vital information including software discounts, assistive technology, how to download Office 365 and much much more.

Accessing your UAL email and Office 365

As a student at UAL, you are able to access Office 365, including MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Onedrive and Outlook for free. Go to Office 365 and sign in with your UAL username and password.

UAL uses Outlook for all staff and student email accounts. You will be able to access this via Office 365. Look out for the Outlook icon when you log in. You must regularly check your email account as this will be where your course team and any other UAL services will contact you.

For more information on downloading Office 365 apps and other software, visit the IT software and discounts pages on the UAL website.

Watch this short introduction to Office 365 for more help.

What is Moodle?

Moodle is the online home for your studies where you will find information, resources and online activities relating to your course. Your course team may also use Moodle to communicate additional news or information about your studies.  It is very important to familiarise yourself with Moodle, to ensure you can access key information.

You can find Moodle at moodle.arts.ac.uk  and log in with your UAL login details. After you log in, you should see your course pages on your Dashboard. If you are logging in before the course starts, the pages may still be in development.

If you can’t see your course pages, contact your programme admin team.

Watch this short video for an introduction to Moodle and how to use it:

Accessing UAL WIFI on site

While you are on site, you can access the UAL WiFi. This means you don’t have to use your data allowance.

When on site UAL-WiFi should appear in your available networks list. You can then log in with your UAL login details. Check out the instructions below for different devices.

For further information, visit IT Services – WiFi and Eduroam (opens a web page)

The UAL Portal is where you can access important information regarding your application, enrolment and assessments on your chosen course of study.

Once you have changed your password, you will be able to access the UAL Portal using your network login details.

Assistive technology and live captions

Assistive technology

There are lots of applications and tools available to you to assist you with your studies.

For more information please contact the UAL Assistive technology page.

Live Captions

Live captions, (where speech is instantly converted to on screen text) can be helpful if you find it easier to read as well as listen in a live session, or if you have a hearing impairment. Please remember that live captions are not always accurate and you may need to clarify some points with your tutor.

MS Teams

In a live teaching session in MS Teams it is possible to turn on live captions. Click on the three dots on the meeting toolbar and select ‘Turn on live captions’.

Live captions will appear at the bottom of the screen.

Collaborate Ultra

In a Collaborate Ultra there is no built-in live caption service, but you can use the Google Chrome Live Caption extension, which will also work if you need it in other apps. Instructions:

  • On your computer, open Chrome
  • At the top right, click the three dots and select – Settings
  • On the Settings page, click Accessibility
  • Turn on Live Captions
